How To Prevent and Get Around Writer’s Block…..
Emptiness of the mind is a desired state by spiritual practitioners, yogis and sages but it is the most dreaded thing for a writer. Lack of idea or blank mind makes you look dumb in your eyes.
Because we are short of time most of the times makes this worse. If you keep struggling to bring an idea into your mind for an hour or so, you have wasted so many valuable moments where you could have added content.
Kingship of content on the internet has brought a new kind of stress on bloggers. They must write endlessly everyday without fail to get ahead and stay there. If they do not someone else would trample them over.
Personally I think that blogging should not be stressful rather an enjoyable activity. But once you get into the race, the stress follows.
No body can afford to have a writer’s block.
While there could be endless forms of therapies for a prolonged writer’s block, what I want to discuss here is occaisional temporary block that would not let you write a single word.
It is more about lack of ideas rather than some psychopathology.
Force Yourself To Write
I have wasted a lot many days of blog writing because of this phenomenon. I would sit there with my laptop in front and do not hnow what to write! My mind would wander from here to there and I would be clueless. I would try surfing to get new ideas but that too would not work. As my morning alotted time started to finish, I would try even harder and my mind would become non reacting in addition to being empty.
Its a quite bad feeling, let me tell you.
Then I would drop the idea. The time was over. My blog would not ave a post that day.
Some days it would happen in succession and making the situation even more stressful.
Then I started write! I would write on any topic that would come into mind. Even if it did not belong to my niche. I would write the chain of thoughts that occurred inside. It could be a description of the tree in front of my balcony or it could be dirt on my car.
I was forcing my mind to write. Then as I continued with this, things started to take shape. You see you can connect the thoughts to make a post. All you need is a mind willing to do that. So my posts started having a a different start. It could begin with brown dog barking at me and then move to relevant topic that my mind created.
Force your mind to write about anything. Ideas would start jumping in your head if you do that.
One thing! Do not expect your first post be bubbling with energy. It could be as bad as an essay written by a five years old. Do not get discouraged by that. Positive thing is that you are not empty anymore and you are writing something. If it is not worth publishing, next would be.
So next time you are empty, keep pounding on the keys. Write about teacup, table anything that trains your mind for discipline of writing.
