WordPress 2.5 is being waited with much eagerness and enthusiasm.
I love WordPress. I love it because it is so damn impressive. It makes you work little on your website taking care of everything and focus on your business. I love it because it is being updated everyday by team of volunteers in response to their creative queries and people’s responses.
I have walked 3 upgrades with WordPress. While I love to upgrade, I must utter a word of caution.
Do not upgrade blindly without keeping a back up plane ready. You never know with upgrades. Something or other might cause the system to act funny.
I remember my last major upgrade. It involved a change in table structures and after the upgrade all I got was Mysql errors.
Fortunately, I had backup and survived.
Still, that wasted my two full days.
There could be plenty of causes for your upgrade to malfunction.
There could be a bug that has escaped developer’s eye, there could be theme or plugin incompatibility. Last but not the least you could have problem due to host incompatibility.
My advice is not to rush to the upgrade. I have tasted it once and it was quite bad.
Do not upgrade for a while. Do not jump foray into it if you want to save headaches later.
Let it come to the market. Let people test it more. Let there be problems and solutions be developed before you go for the button.
It is a different thing if you want to be part of testing community.
Then also, do not sacrifice your main blog. If you want WordPress be tested on your blog then its better to create a replica of your blog and test on the duplicate one.
If everything is well, go ahead.
I would rather wait and watch.
