When Your Business Outgrows Your System - Do Not Get Stuck
September 28, 2008 by Arun Pal Singh · Leave a Comment
Recently I witnessed a dilemma that I kept pondering on and on. The matter did not need so much attention but somehow things lingered on. I had purchased a script about a year back for my membership site Download Center at Home For Profits.
Because the membership site grew very fast and needed an independent address, I decided to shift the entire site to a new domain at eproductslibrary.com.
I was running my Downloadcenter with Amember script and Wordpress. The script works well barring few functions that I desired.
Here was the dilemma!
Should I purchase a new script or keep working with old. It now seems like a clear decision but when I raised this question first time, I found it difficult to choose. It was not much time ago that I bought this script. Was it wise to think of another script for the same purpose.
After I get the new script, the present script would become redundant. Is it wise to dump my investment.
The future script is costly and is it prudent to make this kind of investment.
It was so easy to work with amember and I have set an entire system on that. Should I invest so much time again?
Another problem was that it would require members to sign up again. While most of would be welcoming the better features, attrition would still be there.
After much thinking I decided in favor of purchasing a new script.
If it makes my business better and I can afford it, I would go for it.
As a businessperson, one should always think of moving to a higher profits stage. If an investment could make your business better and provide your customers with more value, I think it should be done.
I think it is usual story.
As we work on our business, we require things that put us on higher pedestals. new scripts, new softwares, more marketing, more staff. These things require money.
We cannot afford everything at one stage and often we cannot afford the best. We do settle for the less functional tools and carry our business forward.
And the day arrives when your business outgrows your present set of system or you can see it happening in near future.
Then you must decide to step forward. It is often painful to part with the system you have been use to but it needs to be done.
I finally decided to purchase the intended script. I would be purchasing it next month probably.
I would apprise you.
Do share your experience in your business career when you were really stuck between two decisions.

Develop Your Strengths-Focus on The Things You Do Well

In our traditional education systems, we are taught to learn everything. A student is considered good if he performs in all subjects.
If somebody is good in Maths and poor in English, he is asked to devote more time on English and lesser on Maths. Because sole purpose of that education is to get good marks in exams and English becomes as important as Maths.
Nobody cares to know what child is inclined to learn better.
Thus, traditionally we are taught to focus on our weaknesses rather than strength. A complete person has an image of jack of all the trades. Read more
