Is Your Sales Pitch Too Shrill….

October 8, 2008 by Arun Pal Singh

You might be scaring away your customers.

Though, Today world runs on buying and selling, somehow, in core of their minds people hate being sold to.

I would narrate a very unique experience. In India people sell the stuffs in local and long distance buses.

I travel less frequently by bus now but I am sure it would be there still.

Almost on every bus stop (I know this sounds annoying) a person would ride in, wait for few seconds and then asks for attention of the passengers. He would then go at lengths to praise the product he is carrying, tell about the special offer and cheap price when compared to the shops.

He does make few sales but that is not I want to observe.

I observe blindness and deafness that comes to people in such cases-

First, everybody is used to the phenomenon so hardly anybody pays attention,  an occurrence very similar to ad blindness phenomenon.

These sellers are not liked at all. People frown and sneer at their sight.

Is your website making people do that to you.

As blogger/ business person/ webmaster, our care concern is to create a credible business that grows with time. That cannot be done if you pitch too hard.

People hat hard pitches.

A hard/shrill sales pitch is like a command and people hat being ordered.

Hard sales pitches evoke who the F are you to tell me what to buy kind of response in people’s mind. You loose the ground to build relation.

People look for solutions on the internet. They want the information. They would like to know more about the problem and when they know you are capable  of understanding what they want, they would listen to your recommendation.

That is the time when you can subtly introduce the product you want to offer and it would yield better results.

You did not pitch anything. All you did was put information people could use along with recommended product that could offer the solution.

That should not be hard to do.
