Here is a big cheer for Adsense Publishers. In a move aimed at better performance of Adsense, Google Adsense has rolled out a new feature today that would allow the publishers to view reporting of their link units separately from regular Ad units.
Till now link units were clubbed together with ad units. Yes! You could view them by identifying with separate channels but no more details could be assessed.
Here is what Adsense blog says
As of today, we’ve enhanced your reports so that you can view the performance of link units separately from your other AdSense for content units. Even better, the link unit-specific reports contain more information about your link units.
A lot of publishers have been asking us for more statistics on their link units, such as the per-link CTR and the number of click-throughs to the link units results page.
Link units occupy lesser space on your site and are less intrusive. But the down side is that you require two clicks to make money.
They are not as popular as content ad units but still quite a lot number of people use them.
With enhanced reporting, Link units are going to be more popular, I think.
To view your new, improved reports you would need to visit the Advanced Reports page under your Reports tab and select AdSense for content.
You’ll notice a new option to customize your reports — ‘Choose Units’. A ‘Combined’ report will look just like the data you’re used to seeing in your AdSense for content reports, while choosing ‘Ad Units’ or ‘Link Units’ will help you look at things with more granularity.
Note: As of now only data after May 2007 is available. Data before that is not generated due to a glitch. Google is working on it and issue would be resolved soon, it says.
