Made for Adsense sites are those sites which use Google Adwords to drive traffic to their sites and the only content they show their readers is Adsense.
Made for Adsense sites are a kind of parasites on your site content. They use low price bids to display their ads on a content site like yours, use low value click to attract visitors to their site and then present him with keyword rich Adsense ads that would make them money.
While you get few pennies for your hardwork, they make more money.
We discussed how price bid gap would enable MFA sites on your site.
If there are MFA sites ads on your webpages, you need to take them down by one or other methods.
We discussed reducing number of ads that you display to check the low paying ads on your site. However that is associated either lower number of clicks also. Sometimes you cannot afford to reduce the number of ads.
How to control MFA sites then?
There are two methods actually. see what suits you. Both work on principle of using Competitive Ad Filter.
Google allow you to block your competitive’s ads from displaying on your site by using Competitive Ad Filter. We would use this feature to block MFA sites.
All you do is add the URL to the list of the ads/sites that you do not want to appear on your site.
Next question is how to recognize MFA sites?
Use Adsblacklist.com
The site generates a list of MFA sites based on your site keywords. It generates a list of 200 sites if you become member. Just copy and paste this in competitive ad filter. Google takes few hours to put this into effect and those ads are blocked
Use Google Adsense Preview Tool To Find URL
You can use Google Adsense Preview Tool to check the URL of the sites that are being displayed on your websites. Google Adsense Preview Tool works only with Internet Explorer. You need to download a key from the page and activate the option in IE.
To find the offensive URL
- Browse to the page containing the ads you’d like to filter.
- Right-click anywhere on the page. From the pop-up menu that appears, select Google AdSense Preview Tool. The tool will open in a new window.
- Select the checkbox adjacent to each ad that you’d like to block from your pages and click Show Selected URLs. The destination URL of the selected ads will appear.
- Copy and paste the URLs into the competitive ad filter text box in your AdSense publisher account and click Save Changes.
Find URL by Link Properties
You can also view full destination URL of each ad as it is contained within the link properties. You can look at the code of the link to find the destination URL
- Right-click on the ad title and select either Copy Shortcut (IE) or Copy Link Location (Netscape).
- Open a text editor, such as Notepad, and paste the selection into the text editor. To paste, select Paste from the text editor’s Edit menu.
- The destination URL of the ad is the text between ‘adurl=’ and ‘&’. As an example, the copied URL will appear as follows (the example has been shortened with ellipses):
http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/adclick?sa=l&(…)&
adurl=http://www.URL.com/signup.g&client=
or
http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/adclick?
adurl=http://www.URL.com/signup.g&sa=
The destination URL in the examples above is http://www.URL.com/signup.g
Copy and paste this value into the competitive ad filter text box in your AdSense account and click Save Changes. It may take up to 4 hours for ads linking to these URLs to be filtered from your pages.
Note
While adsblacklist.com works for some sites, it may not work on every site. It may also contain irrelevant ad URLs which would be unlikely to be displayed on your website. Therefore you would need to monitor the results.
I find Google Adsense Preview Tool to be the best. It avoids accidental clicks and it shows URLs in list. I find third method quite tedious to use and you need to work upon individual ads.
