Your Future-Its Worth Looking Into

I was going through “Business The Report Murdoch Way” by Stuart Crainer. It is a good book about world’s best deal maker. There is a chapter in the book that got my special attention.
The chapter is named “Imagine the Future Continuously”. The author emphasizing how important it is to look into the future and imagine your business accordingly.If you work alone like me, you must be so engrossed in daily chores that spending your time on imagining must not how crossed your mind.
There is so much to do everyday including the weekends.
Thinking about future is a great skill that you would develop by -thinking.
For thinking about future, you must be entirely aware of your present.
In regards to your business there are things that you must be aware of-
- Your Product and Services
- Your Market
- Your Traffic
- Your Competition
- Your Reputation
- Technology
Your Product and Services
Are you making enough sales or have you reached a plateau after initial growth.
Would it help if you introduce a new product.
Your Market
Is your market responsive enough. Is it decreasing in size?
Has entry of other kinds of product taken your share?
e-books use to be hot cakes but with entry of audio/video the market has decreased.
Your Traffic
Is it increasing, decreasing or staying same?
What are sources of your traffic?
Is it diversified or dependent on single source like Google?
If it is so, should you be working on diversification ?
Your Competition
What is your competition doing?
How you need to respond to it.?
Your Reputation
Is you reputation graph rising?
How can you use it to your own advantage?
Is it falling?
Why?
What should be done to reinstate the previous good image.
Technology
Is there a new technology?
Would it affect your business?
How can you take advantage of technology?
Is there change in the way web internet (e.g., viral markeing)?
What should you do to take leverage?
There could be many more aspects that you need to look into depending on your business.
Looking into future means spotting the trend and calculating impact on your business or recognizing the opportunity well in a advance when it is about to appear.
