Dictionary meaning of empathy is to understand and enter into other’s feelings. It is like putting yourself in other person’s place and then think and understand from his perspective.
Empathy is muh more than plain understanding. It is do with feelings too.
If you understand empathy well; it could bring you readers who connect better with you; who would like to purchase from you and stay loyal.
Just because you empathized with them.
How can you bring empathy in your writing?
By delving into problems of your readers. By understanding their problems and feeling what they feel when surrounded by those questions.
If you understand their problems, you are good. If you feel for them as well, you are divine.
I know this phenomenon very well from personal experience.
Traditionally, doctors are trained not to feel for their patients for their and patients good. The idea was to stay at a distance from you patients so that it does not affect your decision making power and ability to communicate the bad decisions.
If you start getting tense about every patient you receive, you would be drained off very soon.
The idea is good. For doctor as well as the patient.
Now there are two extremes. On one side we have doctors who appear cold and on the other end we have someone who is too caring to make difficult decisions.
Both are bad.
I found that a dash of empathy always made my patient feel better.
Godbye coldness.

Being able to relate to a person because you are in their group or have common experiences or background.
When onfronted with a difficult role, a good actor always start transforming into the intended charecter much before than the actual shoot. He would visit the place of character, read about him, try to know his styles and so on.
The idea is to gather as much information and experience about that character.
You need to think like your prospect/reader to feel about his problem. You can gain this thinking by experience.
Marriage makes you understand family more effectively.
Children not only raise your capacity to love and tolerate but also to empathise with problems of others.
This is empathy based on experience.
Experience-based empathy enables you to get inside the minds of your prospects in a way others will not because they are not experience
