And How it can work wonders for your business

Once I have feeling for the choices, I have no problems with decision.

Lou Gerstner

For some the term intuition means being irrational. Better known as ‘Gut Feeling’ intuition is far more than irrational behaviour.

“The term does not denote something contrary to reason but something outside the province of the reason”, noted Carl Jung.

Intuition implies following what one thinks is right or wrong irrespective of what others may say.

This element cannot be defined precisely but here is what majority of people define intuition as

  • Gut feeling/ Instinct
  • Spontaneous Perception/ Vision
  • Insight
  • Subconscious process
  • Inherent Perception/ Feeling from within
  • Decision without recourse to logical methods
  • Integration of previous experience
  • Solution to problem without complete data

It is something that comes from within, may be based on your perception, experience, understanding or subconscious process. Its like a voice that tells you what to do.

It may be wrong! You run risk of failure.

It could be right! You have chances to make tremendous profits.

Research shows that success I every field requires more than just logical movements and data based action.

All successful people have often acted with a hunch.

The just know what to follow.

‘You don’t discuss matters, you just sense it’

Phil Hodgson, British academic conducted a research for his book “What Do High Performance Managers Really Do?” noted that successful ones use their intuition very well and have number of common characteristics.

- They take decisions quickly and confidently. They don’t weigh things up for long time.
- They use data only when necessary
- They recognize intuition as skill and act on intuitive judgements.

So! Intuition is a good thing to have, it can guide your decisions and put you on road to better profits.

But how does one develop intuition.

Intuition is a matter of perception, experience and subconscious thoughts.

Some people are better in it than others. They always seem to know the answers to the questions they confront.

But others may not be so lucky.

But intuition can be developed and it can be mastered by practicing.

To develop intuition. You must

  • Increase your perception
  • Increase your experience/ knowledge
  • Listen to your subconscious process

You can start practising your intuitive skills in the areas where you do not run a big risk a costs involved are small.

When mastered well, intuition would really be a boon to your business.
