What Did You Do Today For Your Business?

For years together, it seemed to me that I have been working my ass off without much results. I use to start my computer just the moment I use to open my eyes (or one). I use to work in all the available time after my hospital duties.

I use to spend 14-17 hours on days if I was on a holiday.

But there seemed no progress as for as money making was concerned.

There was no doubt I was working very hard. My internet business fascination had become a center point of my life and thoughts.

I pushed myself further and further without much success in terms of money.

And then I did an analysis.

I wrote on a paper the list of activities that I used to do everyday.

Then I divided that list into two halves

• The activities that were directly responsible for my business growth
• Activities that were not

To my surprise, I hardly did anything apart from a post writing that could be considered as business helping activity.

Most of my time was spent on

• Reading/surfing through mails
• Checking Stats
• Reading articles because somebody sent that link
• Learning skills (like site designing) which were not going to be helpful in my business
• Checking my affiliate area to see if there was any sales and I was not notified

That was enough reason to shift my focus or rather build it.

Internet is a huge place. Much more bigger than our imagination can think of. If you are not directed by your activity checklist, it is easy to get lost.

You might be tempted to learn designing. Now this is a good and business helping activity if you want to be site designer.

But if you wish to be a marketer, it is not of much benefit.

Thus spending your time on this skill learning is not going to make you a businessman.

Better outsource it and spend your time learning  and doing marketing.

At any given time, any activity you do has one of the following relations with your business

• It helps to grow your business]
• It does not help

[I am assuming that you do not indulge in anti business activities ]

As time itself is quite a precious item, it is better to focus on activities that help in growth of your business.

Whenever you work on a chore, ask yourself a question

“Would it help my business.”

This is the easiest way to know about value of your activity and by asking this question again and again you would prime yourself to stay away from activities that do not help your business.
