Internet Marketing world is full of hype, lies and concoctions. Therefore it is easy for the newbies to get allured and deceived.
One of the thing that almost everyone searches to read is the review of a a digital product.
Review is kind of proof that the product has been used by somebody and how good or bad he/she found the product.
But in this era of paid reviews and false reviews, it is difficult to find a review which is original and honest.
How to find a review that is useful and trustworthy?
Are Paid Reviews Worth Your Time and Money?
Simply put forget them.
Run away from paid reviews. There are very few paid reviewers who do a justice to the review and they can be counted on fingers.
Rest all is bluff.
I have had experience with paid reviews and I will tell you that they cannot be trusted.
First condition that a review puts on the author is not to disclose that it was a paid review.
Then most of them ask for a positive review.
If you do not fulfill both criteria you are not allowed to write a review.
Thirdly most of the people writing the review just eye on the cash. They are not concerned with what they are writing.
I stopped doing paid reviews because of these reasons.
What About Unpaid Reviews?
Reviews in internet marketing world are very different from rest of the niches. Most of the people who do reviews aim at making money by selling through affiliate links. It is not a bad thing but if primary motive of review is highlighting the affiliate link, things become worse.
Recently I started reviews and meta reviews on my blog.
Meta review is a unique concept where I search the web reviews to produce an ultimate decision on the product review. I have borrowed this concept from evidence based medicine which uses available evidence to produce answer to a question.
Metareviews are done for the products which
- I have not bought or do not intend to buy and
- The product owner does not agree to provide a review copy
In such cases, the next best thing to do is to search the web and reach at conclusion.
I do use affiliate links in the reviews. I need to make money too
When I search the web I often come across lazy or salesy reviews which are hardly any justice ot the review.
A lazy review is a review that uses copy and paste system to paste the sentences from the product website they seem to be promoting. Obviously you cannot trust them.
Salesy reviews are the reviews that are interested in click on the affiliate link from the reader. They try to create a hype around the product making it appear next wonder product or greatest invention of the mankind.
Both of these kind of reviews are bot included in meta reviews.
There are good reviews out there too but the number is small.
What Makes A Good Review?
In short a good review has reader’s interest in mind. It strives to tell about the product, its feature and benefits along any drawback and con. It discusses about the user experience that author had and the target level which might be benefited.
It is not a salesy kind and neither it copies the language of the website of the product being reviewed.
The good review would have a voice of its author which comes by the experience of use. Undoubtedly, there would be bias involved but a review cannot be unbiased.
In contrast, a meta review by virtue of collection of evidence becomes unbiased.
There are a lot of reviews on the web but good reviews are far less.
Do a little search and collect the evidence.
