One of the things that I enjoy on the internet is constant influx of the change.
Everything is changing with time.
In their effort to serve users to the best of the expectation the search engines change and improve their algorithm often.
While the game demanded so, I have always thought that putting emphasis on backlinks for site ranking was fallacious method.
The good thing is that the rule is about to change.
The search engines would be placing more emphasis on the mactual content and how users like or dislike the content.
That is a good thing and is a move towards becoming better.
One of the factors that matter in the rankings of site is how much time an average user spend on the website after she arrives there.
Or in other words how does your site fair in user engagement.
If it is less then obviously your web site does not hold much value to the user and thus your site should also be of lesser value in eyes of search engine.
What Does This Mean To You?
Engage your readers. Give them information they want and give them more options to stay on the website. It could be a video to watch or links to related articles. Optimize your content in a way that user sticks to your content and the related content.
This is called stickiness of the website.
It is time to be unique and informative. If your page hosts “cut and paste” content or does not provide user enough information or links to stay further on your site, you need to worry.
A simple trick like posting a video may increase the engagement of the readers.
It is time to hold your readers. From now on they are going to decide how your page would rank in eyes of search engines.
