Carrying Too Much Load…..???

No! It is not a post about fat loss. Though I should concentrate on increasing girth of mine as well but that would be off the topic.

Let us talk about what we do here.

Online business talk.

;-)

This thought was sparked by a recent comment I made on a blog recently.

When I was new to internet marketing and online business, I was doing a lot of activity and still made little progress.

First year

Second year

Third year

Minimal progress.

It was then I started to take a critical look at what I was doing and what was required of me.

And all I found can be summed up in few words

“I was carrying too much load to walk”.

Different people have different capacity of what they can carry along.

It is a common mistake with online business newbies to start too many projects. When I say project I mean anything that is aimed at profiting or learning  and needs one’s inputs.

When you begin, there are so many things to learn. There is HTML, web hosting, tweaking the files, web designing, tinkering with photographs, logos, ebooks, cover graphics,  photoshop, download, upload, FTP,  article writing, article submission, SEO, Adwords, PPC, forum marketing, blogging, blog commenting, press releases, paid advertising and a lot more.

If you start learning and doing everything together, it becomes a load you cannot carry.

Similarly, starting too many website that you find impossible to maintain is too much load.

I have done both the mistakes. I have spent months learning the things that I never required. Sometimes it was just to feel good. Afterall how does it matter if I know or not about the available CMSes.

Oh! I know Joomla. Let me try Drupal now.

That is simply out of range, what to speak of out of focus.

Been There, Done That Enough.

From that point onwards I simply started shedding the extra load. I stopped learning everything that I came across. I needed both my eyes and cerebral cortex fixed at my goals.

It does not matter if I do not know how to create  a log. If needed I can purchase one. Otherwise I would do without log too.

Things Started Looking Better

When I started doing that, I found a change in my pace. I could accomplish more and six months later I had stats showing me that I was earning more too.

I have closed many websites that I conceived and published. You cannot divide your two hours on 12 websites. It is better to have one website where you cannot put both the hours.

I still have some domain names which I have kept for love of keeping and to satisfy the urge of thinking, “Someday…”.

Old Habits Die Hard

I still get tempted to learn a new thing or post an article on my redundant websites. But then I have to consciously say NO.

There are new opportunities I can see and dive in.

But what is the fun if I could not manage the project.

What About Your Load?

Do you feel you too are carrying extra baggage that is stopping your progress. Please share your thoughts on this matter.

How do you plan to shed extra load and boost your business?
