In today’s blog writing, your post is competing with innumerable other posts in blogosphere. If your post does not have the extra edge, it is not going to make the impact.
Of course, I understand that you cannot expect every piece of your writing to stand out. That does not happen even with best of the blogs. But you can inculcate good habits so that your blog post is well formatted for better rankings.
Over the time I have earnt that it is just matter of habit. If you do these things again and again they become normal part of the writing process.
Yes! There are a few things that you can do before after finish writing and before you hit “Publish” button.
No! I am not talking just about search engines. In fact, as the technology becomes more humane, the divide between human and search engine eyes is narrowing. A better presented content is liked both by search engines and humans. This is what I am talking about.
Make your post better ranked by search engines and more tempting to your readers.
If you were like me you would write your post in hurry, give a title, write tags and publish it after assigning a category.
That is an okay method but it can be made better
Write Well In Advance
If you plan to write in advance, you get an ample time to think about a better title, a well written content and brush up the content before publishing it.
Well Thought Titles, Well Thought Content
Do not write in hurry. If you are in hurry, you become prone to commit mistakes and want to wind up the entire thing without giving much thought to it.
That results in hurriedly written titles, grammar and spelling mistakes, poorly assembled tags and sometimes wrong categories.
Write Good, Relevant and Effective Tags
During and after writing of your post, you can list all the tags that might be associated with your writing.
After you have listed them it is good to think of alternate words and phrases that can be added to present tags.
Using a keyword search is always a good idea and one the tools that I have used and found good is SEO.
Use Slug Effectively
WordPress allows you to edit slug. You can use this feature to form better keyword rich slug eliminating the unrequired clutter in the URL.
For example if I had not changed, the default post title would have become the slug.
i.e.
how-to-format-your-blog-post-to-give-it-extra-edge
But just have a look at the url. It ends in
write-better-articles
It makes your URL attractive to search engines and tempting to readers
Alternate Titles For Browser
All In One SEO plugin makes this smooth. You can have an alternate title for the search engine display and display in browser title bar. Just look at your Browser top bar to have an idea.
