Understanding Web Host, Web Server and Different Types Of Web Hosting

In Computer and Internet, Internet Business Start Up

A [tag-tec]web hosting service[/tag-tec] is a type of Internet hosting service that allows you to provide your website(s) accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity.

A [tag-tec]Web server[/tag-tec] is computer that is responsible for accepting HTTP requests from clients, which are known as Web browsers, and serving them HTTP responses along with optional data contents, which usually are Web pages such as HTML documents and linked objects. In simple terms it is a kind of computer that allows people to find the files residing in its space when people access it through internet.

TO create a website so that people can visit it, you would need to place your files called webpages on a computer that is connected to internet and would let visitor see your site. Such a computer is called web server and this service is called web hosting. It is so because the computer becomes host to your files.

There are many types of hosting which differ in the price and features they offer

[tag-tec]Free web hosting service[/tag-tec]: As the name indicates it is free, and generally advertisement-supported web hosting. This kind of hosting is often limited in features when compared to paid hosting.
Shared web hosting service: In this case your website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands. All domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU.

[tag-tec]Reseller web hosting[/tag-tec]: It allows clients to become web hosts themselves. Resellers could function, for individual domains, under any combination of these listed types of hosting, depending on who they are affiliated with as a provider.

[tag-tec]Virtual Dedicated Server[/tag-tec]: In this case a sever is sliced up into virtual servers. Each user feels like they’re on their own dedicated server, but they’re actually sharing a server with many other users.

[tag-tec]Dedicated Hosting [/tag-tec]: the user gets his or her own Web server and gains full control over it. However, the user typically does not own the server.

[tag-tec]Managed Hosting [/tag-tec]: The user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it. However, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.

[tag-tec]Colocation Web Hosting [/tag-tec]: It is similar to the dedicated web hosting service, but the user owns the colo server; the hosting company provides physical space that the server takes up and takes care of the server. This is the most powerful and expensive type of the web hosting service.

[tag-tec]Clustered Hosting[/tag-tec]: Clustered hosting is when multiple servers host the same content for better resource utilization.
