Eminence Versus Evidence-Learning Online Business Truths From Medicine

In early days of medicine, the medicine was strictly passed from teacher to students. There were teachers who were known for their knowledge and there were pupils who were known by the name of their teachers.

Secrets were passed from one teacher to next pupil and those who did not have the privilege to be the student would remain devoid of those secrets, the fine things that made that teacher a teacher.

And teachers guarded their secrets well and taught only to whom they please, a manner which I would term as unscientific.

Those were times of eminence. Whatever teacher said was right. As medical science became more scientific in attitude and we began to exchange data, many a teachers were found to follow beliefs and assumptions.

As our data collection, assimilation and interpretation increased, the curve shifted from eminence to evidence.

We now have such a vast data at our disposal that we cannot be misguided by mere eminence.

I must explain that I am not saying that role of teacher is no more important. You would always need teachers to guide through process. Teacher is somebody who mixes the data with his own understanding and experience to show you the way.

What I want to emphasize is that the teacher as secret provider is no more now. Every secret is out there in the books, on internet, on CDs and other media. If somebody is bluffing you know because you have data to support it.

The availability of data and media has turned everybody into student of medicine. While teachers are more experienced, students may be more tech no savvy to know the latest happenings in the field.

It is surprising that same technology has produced secret holders and lurkers for those secrets on the internet.

There is plenty of information available on the internet but we still keep looking for secrets to make quick money.

The quest for more knowledge is insatiable. But the quest for secrets to build quick money is dangerous.

Do not look for secrets. There are none.

If you have difficulty in understanding and application, you should look for a teacher and not a secret provider.

Remember!

When you must choose between eminence and evidence, evidence is always a better choice.

Actually, there IS one secret…and that’s giving yourself permission to sing your own song, make mistakes often, learn from them, and THEN discover what really works online for YOU.

    Oops – guess it’s not a secret anymore. :)

Seriously, though, 10+ years of making my own living online has shown me that while mentors can flatten learning curves, it’s the “taking ownership and responsibility of ALL aspects of online business” that really makes the difference. Learn how to enhance your own websites or blog, learn how to add call-to-action graphics, learn how to write copy….don’t depend upon anyone else to do it for you!

    Great article,
