First of all let me emphasize that planning or goal writing is an individual activity. No one can write goals for you. All that other person can do is give you framework and suggestion.
But the actual goals must come from you. The following discussion can only hale and guide you not make plans.
Technically speaking a business plan
- Defines your business
- Identifies your goals
- Defines the way to achieve them
But because you are just starting, it is not necessary to build an ideal business plan that includes cash flow and balance sheets. Heck! I did not even know these terms properly before I started. What we are going to do here is an exercise that would give you an idea of coming things and how to manage them.
As you grow your knowledge you can build your plan better but for a while we would concentrate on following.
Model
What model would you follow. Would you open a blog and build your audience or you want to promote and sell your products. Most of the people who start follow the first model.
Niche
What would be focus of your business/blog. Here is a good article to find places or your niche research.
Budget
You need budget to run your business. It is good idea to keep a separate money for your online ventures. You would need money to buy domain name, give hosting fee, access required tools etc.
Time
Your blog or business requires a constant input from you. A separate time must be allocated after your regular job is over. Remember! regularity is more important and if you keep this good habit from very beginning, it is going to reward hugely.
Worksheet
It is a good idea to create a work sheet that includes your daily activities, weekly targets and monthly goals. Prepare a rough outline first if you do not have an idea how things would go.
Once you jump into, you would be better equipped to prepare short term goals.
Shot term goals for your first month may look like
- First Week - Do extensive niche research and conclude the desired field of working.
- Second Week - Brainstorm on domain name and come out with a good, catchy name that is available. Secure the domain name and get a good hosting service after thorough research. Get a good idea of how Cpanel/hosting interface works.
- Third Week - Select your Working platform for example WordPress and install it in your domain. With most of hosting services providing Fantastico install, there should not be much problem in installation itself. Learn about WordPress administrative area and how things are managed.
- Fourth Week - Set your blog by customizing themes, plugins and widgets.
Your blog is ready to be driven by month end.
Note: Many readers with knowhow would find it surprising why I have allotted one month for the work that can be done in few hours. I am assuming that the person is absolute beginner and have no idea about anything. It therefore becomes a slow process and one month seemed adequate time.
You can build your own list that you want to follow.
Go for online business if you had been procrastinating it in the past.
Get in, learn, improve and excel. Start your venture at the earliest.
