In business sometimes we do not get the results th way we expect them to be. Same holds true for email marketing. The process of email marketing may not always bear the kind of results that you expect. Even after doing all the basics right the response rates may fall way short of expectations.

If it is so, you need to work upon your email marketing. You need to improve your campaign after doing a little analysis and research.

It is presumed that you are tracking a your mails and you have collected enough data to analyze. It is also assumed that all your readers are receiving your mails.

Based upon your data you need to classify your recipients into three categories.

  • Those who delete your email without opening
  • Those who opened did not click the desired link
  • Those clicked but did not make the wanted response at your website

Let us discuss them one by one

Those Who Delete Your Email Without Opening

This would generally be the biggest subgroup among your readers. They simply discard your email as junk mail.

To improve upon this segment, you need to work upon subject line of your mail. You also need to see how your name appears in sender’s name in the inbox list.

Change your subject line and see the response over the time. Split test your subject headings for comparison. Note down which kind of headings are performing the best.

Secondly, try changing your sender’s name. Make it more personal than a formal company name. People connect better to persons than houses.

Those Who open But Do Not Click The link

This subgrouo would also be quite big. Most of the readers who fall in this category read just read few initial lines and then close the mail. In these cases, you need to work on your headline to make them attention catching and enticing enough so that your reader continues to read.

Those click But Do Not Respond At Your Website

Congratulation! You have been successful in pulling your readers to your website. This subgroup would be smaller in comparison to the others. People are interested enough to come to your site but are not giving you the most wanted response.

Congratulations! You have succeeded in pulling your reader to the website. In this case you must critically analyze landing pages of your website. Does it need improvement. Is something missing. Is the site not good looking. Is there not enough communication. is your offer clear or confusing. Is the form simple and easily fillable.

Find answers to the questions and make improvisation if necessary.

Repeat the process and over some time you would find that your emails are getting better response.

Improvement is an ongoing process. You must keep working till the time you find no further scope for improvement.
