I am yet to write my first ebook. I had been postponing it for quite sometime now for some reasons or other. It is not i schedule even for next one month.

All that I am doing is shuttling between hospital and my home office. I actually enjoy both places. Had it been any other job I would have quit it long time back but being a doctor does give different kind of satisfaction.

But I am aware that I have not produced an ebook and would include this in my next monthly scheduling.

When I entered into internet business in 2003 ( Well! It was more of learning by trial for next two years rather than business) I saw ebooks being published everywhere on the net and being sold on premium prices.

Everyday there would be an email announcing arrival of new secret laden book.

But scenes have changed now. You would hardly make any any money with an ebook these days, untill you are a big name with big clout when you can emotionally charge your customers with sweet talk and copywriting, only to be disillusioned later.

You cannot put a premium price on your ebook too. Its passé.

How can you utilize an ebook you write?

Here are the benefits of providing your valued ebook for free that I thought of.

Exposure

If it is free, it is going to be seen, read and passed on by a lot of people. This helps in building your brand and reputation. If you have your backend strategies in place you would be rewarded manifolds .

Traffic

Ebooks drive traffic.And a lot of that traffic. If you have a lot of ebooks circulating in the market with backlinks pointing to your website, you would have an ample traffic. How you convert that is up to you and your website.

Competiton

When you write an ebook, you become a cut above those who have not. That puts you ahead of many people. A good thing to happen

Conversation

Ebook can increase conversation on your blog. Make a post on the blog regarding a=the ebook and then in the ebook itself, post a request for feedback. There goes you rocking post.

You can get highly motivated buyers in your ebooks who would buy the stuff you recommend. A good way to increase the sales.

Practice.

You need to write regularly to produce that perfection. Ebooks give you a great platform to practice. More you write, better you become. writing articles for blogs or article directories is different. Writing ebook is different. You need to remove many repitions, divide in chapters and create a book out of your segmented content.

Ebook can be a great list building tool. All you nneed is to put a link to your squeeze page.

An ebook is the easiest method to create an info product. Ebook can be created in PDF and HTML form. The most common file format for an e-book is Adobe Acrobat PDF but few writers prefer other format.
Creating PDF Ebooks:
You would write and design your ebook first in MS Word. If you have many illustrations, you can use Pagemaker or Quark. We would be discussing MS Word as it is the most commonly used word processing program. You would also require a software that would convert Word files into PDF format. Ideal choice is adobe Acrobat Professional but that is quite costly. There are free options available fortunately.

Creating An HTML Ebook:
For HTML ebooks an ebook pages are created like pages of a web site. For HTML ebooks you would have to make sure that you select a good software package that allows you to include hyperlinks, graphics, search, and forms. Two of good softwares that I would recommend are Ebook Pro and Ebook Compiler. HTML ebooks are fancier than pdf ebooks and you can add many effects which may be liked by the reader.
HTML ebooks do not work in Mac computers.
Whatever format you use for ebook creation, you would need to keep these tips into mind.
Page size: E-book pages are typically between 5×7 and 6×9 inch. You can set the page size in Word’s “Page Setup” menu.
Margins: You should set margins to a minimum of 0.75 inch on all sides. It is also customary to place a header and footer at each page. Title of the book and the page number are most commonly used headers.
Font: You should use standard fonts such as Times, Times New Roman, Century/New Century Schoolbook, or Palatino. You should use a minimum of 11 points for text, and 12 to 14 points for subheadings.

Graphics: For graphics use .gif or .jpg files. Use images of appropriate size and of good resolution. Check your image resolution by enlarging your Word document to 150%. Your image should look good and undistorted at this magnification.
Front Matter: These are the pages that come before your first chapter. These would include
* A title page
* A copyright page
* Acknowledgments, if you want
* Table of contents

Back matter: This comes after the last chapter. You can put an index, your own bio, contact information and advertisements for any other books that you are selling.
