I am not sure why this is happening. The Google Adsense For Domains is just purging out few of my domains after approval. I tried submitting again and yes they went off the list again.

I do not what is happening.

Google does not allow the site listed with Google Applications for use in Adsense for Domains. But such is not the case here.

Even then..?

I wrote a letter to the Google Adsense.

Let us see if they post some reply back.

I have closed many websites in the end of last year which were either not performing or demanded time that was not at my disposal.

I closed them one by one and in order to monetize, I have listed them in Google Adsense for domains program.

What Is Google Adsense For Domains?

Google Adsense for domains is a program by Google Adsense where you can park the domain with them and they would display relevant ads on them.

If you have non working domains lying idly, you can consider joining the program.

You would get a percentage of ad clicks from your parked domain.

Ads on parked domains is not a new concept and many domain registrar like Godaddy and Sedo and others do it if yu let the domain parked with them.

They make money but do not give domain owner anything.

But it is possible to earn money with Google Adsense for domains.

How To Join The Program?

You need to have a working Adsense account if you wish to work on your parked domains.If you do not have you an account, you can apply for one.

• In your Adsense account,  go to “Adsense Setup”.
• Click On “Adsense For Domains”
• Click “Add New Domains”
• Fill the domain name  in the form, one domain name per line and select the language.
• Submit by pressing  “Add Domains” button.

The system then starts verifying the domains.

Now, go to your registrar and change the Nameservers to following

• ns1.googleghs.com
• ns2.googleghs.com
• ns3.googleghs.com
• ns4.googleghs.com

That is all. Wait for verification of the domain which might take anything between two hour to two days.

I am just starting with it. Let us see if I make any money. One thing is for sure. It is not going to pay as mush as the Adsense for websites does.

Less traffic and less advertisers are my prime reasons for this speculation.

There is a news [undated but recent] posted on Hostgator blog that the webhost company is taking steps to become a full fledged registrar.

I, till now have registered all my domains at GoDaddy and I have no qualms about them.

My websites are hosted with Host Gator.

I might want to switch if the services are good.

When I joined internet way back in 2004, I joined it under a host that charged $25 per month and offered few features.

But that was quite some time back and situation has become better due to competitive prices and features being offered by hosting companies.

The web hosting is now available in less than $5 per month and offers plentiful of features.

Which host to select is quite a mind boggling question when you are doing it first time.

So I decided to answer this question in this article today.

First answer to a simple question.

Which is the best host?

There is not a single host which qualifies as the best. Different hosting companies differ on the services offered and  instead of best it is wise to choose something like top 10 or similar.

Here is the list of hosts that comes to you as top 6 web hosts. Each of them might differ slightly in terms of feature and price and you would need to find yourself what suits you best.

But as I did my search on web hosts, following hosts clearly emerged as winners.

This listing is based on my research and is determined by how many times a particular host has been listed in top 10 of different series.

There are thousands of hosting companies out there and if you want to search and find , you can. My idea of providing you with a top  hosts was to lessen your confusion and save you plenty of days altogether.

If you have time, you must conduct your own search. Here is the list. It is not in any particular order. I have always considered teh top 10 almost at par as far as features and prices are concerned. I myself have my website with Host Gator and would recommend it to any body.

Choosing a domain name can be a herculean task. With limited availability of domain names and limitations generated by your fantasy, the task of finding a domain almost seems near impossible.

A domain name suggestion is a very useful application if you want to avoid long hours of sitting, thinking about possible domain names and typing each to check if they are available.

There are many entrepreneurs who buy established websites to boost there business. It could be for starting a new venture or for purpose of selling the website or to leverage the trafic that already goes to that website.

Before you purchase any website you need to identify its relevance for your purpose, its profitability and authenticity.

There are few questions that need to be answered before you start buying website. At the least following answers should be soughtNiche

Is niche of the website suitable for you. Does it fit your scheme of things. To be useful the niche has to be either similar or relevant or complimentary to your own business. If you plan to flip you need to see the demand for the niche.

It is better to buy websites in the related or hot niches. The might cost more but you are sure of making profits.

Profitabilty

Is the site making profit? The price of the site can vary with the profits it makes. If the site is not profitable a lower price can be negotiated. You can ask for website stats and take an idea of traffic.
Monetization strategies of the website should be looked into and concluded if site is making an efficient use or not.

This information can help you to draw your own goals for the site.

Work and Maintenence

How much input was put in the wrok and maintence of the site. Was it outsourced or owner was doing it himself. If too muich work is involved the value of the website decreases.

Mission or Purpose

Does the website has any purpose or mission. Does it inspire the readers or helps them in some way or the sole motive of the website was to attract the visitors and make some money. if the site was aimed just at money, it could mean a lot of work to change the website impression.

If the site was out just out of hobby, it need to be seen whether it has been developed to acquire any potential or not.

Can You Leverage The Site

This would give you the final answer to whether to consider the purchase or defer it. Obviously buying a website that cannot be leveraged is a dead investment.

What other things do you take care of when buying a website?

In more than four years that I have been on internet, I happened to collect about 16 domain names. I am not adding those that I have registered and then let expire in want of renewal.

I think it is quite natural with everybody. First you start with an idea and after you start working on the idea, you are bombarded with ideas after idea. They seem profitable and lucrative, you also think a catchy name and go ahead with domain registration.

But you cannot handle many things at one time. Therefore you cannot move many businesses together. Every niche requires you to focus on. Therefore, you end with domain names lying and doing nothing with them.

Because I did not wanted to part with these names (Who knows what I might do with them in future?), I searched for the ways I could put them into use. All I aimed was to recover their renewal costs so that they become self sufficient in a way.

Here are the things that I found about money making from dormant domains.

Sell Them

This was never my option and intention (at least till now) bu tit is one of the option so I am listing it. You can sell your domain name at various places on the internet. But looking at the trends, if your domain name is not a  premium domain, you would not be getting much from your domain.

Following things help you to get a better price/negotiation power

• Age of domain: older domains are more valued in eyes of search engine
• Traffic: If you have good traffic, it increases utilization of the domain for the buyer
• Page Rank: For obvious reasons

If your domain is oven fresh or you did not work at it at all, you would have to be contend with whatever you get. In my view you would hardly reach three figures untill some buyer is desparate enough to buy the name you possess.

SnapNames.com or Sedo.com are good places to sell your domain names. Some registrars like GoDaddy also offer this service.

Redirect Them

If you have a domain with taffic you can redirect that  traffic to your present website. If there is not much traffic, the redirect would not serve much purpose in this way. However you can use them to redirect your affiliate links or other marketing effortd.

Park Them

I am sure you are familiar with parked domains. A good keyword rich domain name would attract more visitors and can earn while it is parked. Your registrar or your host may offer this service. I use Godaddy and Hostgator. Both of them are offering this service. A Sedo, Domainsponsors are other good names in this fieldI

Services like this will create and optimize custom landing pages for each of your domains, and include relevant ads and targeted content. You make a percentage of the earnings generated through your domains.

Start A Blog

You can start a blog on your domain and then update it automatically by RSS feeds. This idea is espcially useful if you wish to develop the domain later.

A plugin like FeedWordpress, which updates your blog with RSS news feeds makes this job easier. You can alsooutsource post creation if you have money. After you have enougj posts you can either monetize the blog or sell it.

Sell Website

This is difficult from domain selling and I intend to do this for my undeveloped, underdeveloped and developing websites.  There are many a places where you can choose to sel the website. BuySellWebsite, NamePros.com and the SitePoint Marketplace are some of the most popular.

After you are ready you can also look for buyers directly.

We have discussed product creation and domain name registration in detail. Next step is getting a webhost, create and publish your website.

Before we move to that let us briefly understand how does web work. This may continue for next few posts but it is worth understanding.
You must have an idea about basic working of the place where you are going to conduct your business.

If you run through a trouble tomorrow then you must be able to understand whether this problem is because of browser, web host, your webpage, your script or your internet connection.

The World Wide Web is a system of interlinked, hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a Web browser, a user views Web pages that may contain text, images, and other multimedia and navigates between them using hyperlinks.

Wikepedia defines World Wide Web (“WWW” or simply the “Web”) as a global information medium which users can read and write via computers connected to the internet. Though technically different web and internet are used interchangeably.

You can reach any page on web by either typing the URL ( Uniform Resource Locator, e.g. – http://www.homeforprofits.com/members/signup.php) of the page into a Web browser, or by following a hypertext link to that page or resource. An hypertext link is the bluish link where your cursor would take a shape of hand and which when clicked would tell the browser to load the page the link is pointing to. That is how we can travel from one site to another without actually typing the address of the page every time in browser bar. This makes the navigation quite smooth and easy.

We do this everyday. We are familiar with this working. What we generally do not know is the things happening behind the scenes. When you type somewebsite.com/somefolder/somepage.html in the browser, the first step, behind the scenes, is resolving the server-name part of the URL ( somewebsite.com) to be into an IP address by the global, distributed Internet database known as the Domain name system or DNS.

Domain Name System (DNS) serves as the phone book for the Internet. It translates human-readable computer hostnames, e.g. homeforprofits.com, into the IP addresses, e.g. 132.14.89.102. This translation or resolution is necessary for the networking equipment needs for delivering information. The browser then establishes a TCP connection with the server at that IP address.

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the core protocols of the Internet protocol suite, often simply referred to as TCP/IP. Using TCP, applications on networked hosts can create connections to one another, over which they can exchange streams of data using Stream Sockets. The protocol guarantees reliable and in-order delivery of data from sender to receiver. TCP also distinguishes data for multiple connections by concurrent applications running on the same host.

The next step is sending a HTTP request the Web server, requesting the resource. In the case of a typical Web page, the HTML text is first requested and parsed by the browser, which then makes additional requests for graphics and any other files that form a part of the page in quick succession. These additional file requests give rise to the difference between one single ‘page view’ and an associated number of server ‘hits’.

Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is a communications protocol used to transfer or convey information on the World Wide Web. HTTP is a request/response protocol between clients and servers. The originating client, such as a web browser is referred to as the user agent. The destination server, which stores or creates resources such as HTML files and images, is called the origin server.

The Web browser then renders the page as described by the files received, incorporating the images and other resources as necessary. This produces the on-screen page that the viewer sees.

Most Web pages contain hyperlinks to other related pages downloads, source documents, definitions and other Web resources.

This collection of useful, related resources, interconnected via hypertext links, is what has been dubbed a ‘web’ of information.

After you have shortlisted the domain name list, you need to go to a domain name registrar, check the availability and register the name out of available options.

Till 1998 Network Solutions was the only company that was authorized to register the domain name. After it lost its monopoly many a companies have risen. At present times there is plethora of domain name registrars available. While competition is good for the prices, it also adds to the confusion. When you look for a domain name registrar, you should keep following in mind:

Accreditation: Your chosen registrar should be ICANN accreditation. ICANN maintains a list of accredited domain registrars. The registrar pays application and annual fees to ICANN. A fee is also paid by the registrar to Network Solutions, the company that maintains the central registry of domain names where all other registrars add their names. When you choose an accredited registrar, you ensure that your chosen domain name is officially part of the Internet. A list of ICANN accredited registrars has been posted.

Sometimes you might find that a webhost or other site is allowing you to register at their website. These act as reseller to the accredited registrars. They should let you know which registrar they represent.

Terms: Be absolutely certain to read and understand what you’re getting before you pay. Read about ownership clause and other terms of condition

Price: There was time when getting a domain name registered was an expensive affair. But now you can get a domain name just for less than $8 at most of the places. There are many types of discounts available that vary greatly with registrars. Do check out various deals.

Duration: Do not register your domain for more than one year in the beginning. You would like to evaluate your registrar before committing for further. You can register your domain up to 10 years in one go

Delay: A domain name is generally available within 48 hours after you register it. NSI has to update the official registry with the DNS information first. Check your registrar’s site to determine how long you’ll have to wait. If it says something like 7 days, do not go for that registrar.

Domain transfer: You should be able to transfer your domain name to another service without any restriction and for a fee not exceeding than fee for new registration. A lot of registrars also offer free transfer.

Generally there is a restriction on domain transfer for 60 days after you register your domain. Please check your registrar to find any other restriction and curbs.

Customer Support: This is another very important aspect. You need a good support system in case of any problem. Check out if phone or chat support is available. If Email support is the available support then it should not take them more than one business day to respond.

The question is often asked but the answer is not that straight. Some people prefer to choose a domain name right at the inception of a business idea. Other would wait till formulation of their concrete business plan. Still many would like to see the product completed before they rush to domain name registrar to register a domain name.Each kind argues about pros and cons of their own timing. While early jumpers want to capitalize on their timing lest the name might become unavailable in future, the late goers want every thing to be in place before they try the domain name registration.

In my view domain name should be registered after you have made a clear business plan. Once you are clear what business you are going to do, you should go and register the domain name related to your business.

But after you have registered the domain, you should not let it lie idle. While the product is being created, you should start advertising your URL. For that you would need to create a one page webpage and publish it. It should contain information about your upcoming product. You can advertise in forums, web articles, classifieds. All of them are free and would help to generate a good
