As a child we are told many stories to teach us basics of life. To let us know good things in life and inspire us follow them.
To be truthful, honest, compassionate and understanding.
There were mythological stories, folklores and so on.
As we grow old real world may push us to forget basic values and make compromises on values.
But then stories are their to remind us what we forget.
Here is a story that I remember often.
Two friends opened a vegetable shop in the town. Though they were friends, there was a stark contrast in their habits.
One was truthful, considerate and compassionate. Other was just a routine guy who sold vegetables.
Routine guy was smarter and he could lure people by his sweet talk. He would sell stale vegetables by telling them fresh and started making quick profits.
The considerate one could just make enough to survive. he did not do the sweet talk, kept only fresh stock though that meant huge losses.
Few months passed and word started spreading fast.
“Routine guy sells stale vegetables.”
“The considerate one keeps fresh stock and if he has not he tells honestly.”
Soon the numbers started changing.
The considerate guy started having increased customers who came repeatedly to him for buying on daily basis.
The other one received only sporadic new customers.
As expected he was soon out of business whereas his competitor made fortunes.
What is the lesson?
One should not forget that business cannot be build online. You can cheat people and make some quick bucks but to build a business you need to work upon your reputation.
Reputation is the metric that would decide fate of your business.
You can choose to resort to cheap tactics and make quick cash. But soon you would be found out and pugged out.
To build business you need to build reputation.
To build reputation, you need to stick to the basic values of truth, honesty and integrity and reflect them in your business.
It takes time but rewards are phenomenal.
Consider this!
People would buy a product within minutes of your recommendation just because you said so.
Isn’t that something?
